How to make a Network Cable (crimp RJ-45 onto Cat5)

The following tools and parts will be needed:
  • Network Cable (cable containing 4 twisted pair such as Cat5 or Cat5e)
  • RJ-45 Connector
  • RJ-45 Crimper
  • Knife
    Tools and parts needed to make a network cable
  1. Cut about an inch of the outter shield off of the end of the wire without cutting into any of the inside wires
  2. Cut the exposed string and/or plastic
    Cut factory pull strings
  3. Untwist the 8 wires and arrange them in this order: Orange/White, Orange, Blue/White, Green, Green/White, Blue, Brown/White, Brown
  4. Cut the wires back to 1/2"
    Cut wires to make them even
  5. Place the RJ-45 end firmly on the wires with the clip facing down
  6. Visually inspect the wire layout to make sure the order has remained the same
  7. Use RJ-45 Crimper to crimp the wires into the RJ-45 end Finished product
  8. Crimp other end if needed and test/use cable
